My music campaign project consisted of what is known today as pop. Pop music is a genre that originated in its modern forms in the US and the UK during the mid-1950s. Out of the three different genre options that my group had the option to choose from for this project, we picked pop because we believed that pop has been the most trending genre of today's day and age. According to a study made by “Future Plus”, pop among with other genres, has dominated the charts and rank in the top positions of popular genres. Furthermore, my group members and I also decided to conduct our project on pop due to the fact that pop has a target audience that ranges from the ages 16 to 24, therefore making the campaign for this specific genre would be more personally relatable to us.
Marketing Trends:

chose to make this specific filter in order to not only promote our new hit but also to help new fans look at the band’s logo and quickly realize who the artist of the song is. Furthermore, another trend that my group has done to market our band was the creation of a website. According to our research, almost all artists of any type of genre use a website to market their hits, social media, merchandise, and more. Specifically our band “Romantic Division’s” website was created in order to tie up all of the previous marketing techniques all into one. Our website has easy to access links that take fans directly to our social media platforms, including Snapchat, and Instagram. The website also contains pictures, the ability to download the band’s hits, a short bio, dates of live events, and of course merchandise.
Marketing products:
Merchandise is extremely important for any type of artist and it can be
used as walking propaganda. According to our research, pop bands make a large percentage of their profit through the use of merch. That’s why Romantic Division decided to make multiple merchandise products like posters, t-shirts, hoodies, hats, and vintage records. We choose to make hoodies because after conducting our research we were saw that the top-selling merchandise product was custom band hoodies. We also made posters because posters are in the top 5 things that fans want to buy along with hats, and t-shirts. Merchandise is a trendy way to market a bans/artist’s work which is why we decided to sell it on our website.
Developing the brand of your artist/band :
My group and I have decided to develop Romantic Divison’s brand by making it stand out from the rest of the other pop bands. For example, we used our social media platforms in order to create a relationship with our fans by creating exclusive behind the scenes videos and sneak pics of future songs. Furthermore, we also used our band’s name to create a secret logo/message that gets carried along throughout the entire campaign. In addition, we tried to make the song’s lyrics relatable for our young/teenage fanbase. Overall, we developed our brand with the initial point of view which was being realistic with our fans and spreading a positive relatable message.
Learned about the production & development of a marketing campaign:
My group and I have learned multiple new things about the entire behind the scenes effort that gets involved in creating a marketing campaign. For instance, I realized that every good campaign requires an intensive amount of research. Therefore, I came to the conclusion that everything on a campaign needs to be fully supported by research or it doesn’t have any type of value. Furthermore, we realized how extremely important marketing to the right target audience is. Every decision made must be based on whether it would be beneficial to the campaign in reaching its target audience. For example, we decided to use Instagram as our main marketing technique because research shows that our target audience (ages 16-24) use Instagram as their main form of social entertainment. Therefore, marketing on Instagram would be most beneficial for our band. Moreover, along with many other marketing techniques, we also learned the importance of production. For instance, we learned that previous to going out and filming, creating a storyboard is critical in order to make a good production. The planning of all the shots beforehand is a great way to make sure that the crew doesn’t forget to film something and helps the editor keep everything organized. Amoung with storyboarding, I also realized that color schemes are key in the production of a good video. The different colors help in translating the emotion that a certain scene is giving to the viewer. Overall, this project helped me understand the importance of multiple different new things that I will definitely be using on my future projects.
